A while back, Jesus was approached by a crazy guy. He ran around, out of control – no one could understand this guy. They wanted nothing to do with him. This guy saw Jesus and demanded to know why this had happened to him. Jesus asked for his name. The man replied, “Legion.” The demons and craziness inside Legion begged to be sent into some pigs nearby instead of this man. However, the pigs went nuts and ran off a cliff and drowned.
The people watching the pigs were understandably scared and ran to tell everyone what happened. The crazy guy, Legion, was back to normal.
“Those who had seen it told the others what had happened to the demon-possessed man and the pigs. At first they were in awe – and then they were upset, upset over the drowned pigs. they demanded that Jesus leave and not come back.” (Mark 5:16-17, The Message)
But what was their natural reaction? Awe over this amazing miracle. Jesus had just changed this man’s life forever. But a minute later… anger over what they lost.
We see miracles everyday. We just don’t really see them. Reconciliation. Forgiveness. Change. Love. A random act of kindness. Survival despite great odds. Healing of bodies and minds. Fifth chances.
